04th December:- A ten day course on Basic epidemiology and Biostatistics has
started on 3rd December at School of Public Health, PGIMER. About 29
participants from all over India are participating in the course. Dr. PVM
Lakshmi, Professor of Epidemiology, School of Public Health welcomed the
participants representing faculty, residents and Ph.D scholars.
The
participants shared their expectations from the workshop which includes
understanding the concepts, planning a study, calculating sample size, data
analysis on Epi-info software and presentation of results.
Dr.
PVM Lakshmi said that the knowledge of epidemiology and biostatistics is must
for researchers to plan and conduct quality research work. This workshop will
help participants to understand the basic concepts of epidemiology and biostatistics through practical
exercises. The participants were told about the evolution of epidemiology as a
tool to understand disease processes and biostatistics as an indispensable
partner to provide valid foundation for support of arguments. They were taught
about the measuring health and disease and ways to present and summarize data.
