2020:- As many as 100 students and staff
attended an Ivy Hospital’s talk on ‘cancer awareness in women’ at Govt
College of Girls, sector 11 here today.
Speaking during occasion, Dr
Rupinder Kaur , consultant obstetrician and gynaecology , Ivy said that
students should maintain a healthy lifestyle and personal hygiene besides
spreading awareness on same to their friends and families.
She said further that according to
statistics, 1 in every 8 women has risk of developing breast cancer in her
lifetime. It is now the common cancer in urban population of India. Cervical
cancer is caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) and there are 77000
new cases diagnosed every year, she pointed out.
Only knowledge and awareness can
help us to prevent cancer and detect it at an early stage, she asserted.
Dr Rupinder maintained that
even if there is no family history of any cancer, one still can get cancerous
disease as cancer could be caused due to many other factors such as
pollution, unhealthy life style, smoking, drinking, pesticides, chemicals etc.
