BPTA Festival-2021 Kick Starts with Rare Convergence of Indian-Irish Traditions

Chandigarh, Oct.30, 2021:- A literary potpourri was exhibited at Macèdoine, A Medley BPTA(Books, Poetry, Theatre & Arts) Festival-2021,  a virtual festival in which a galaxy of luminaries from the world of art and literature from two nations -India & Ireland participated on the opening  day. The two day BPTA Festival-2021 will conclude on October 31. The festival commenced with the address of Ambassadors of the Irish and Indian Embassies – Brendan Ward and Akhilesh Mishra respectively.

Nisha Luthra, Founder Director, BPTA, said that the festival is being organised virtually in its first edition due to COVID restrictions but we will endeavour to organise it in the traditional form with one-on-one in person interactions from next year onwards. The idea is to make the BPTA an annual calendar event to showcase to the world India' and Ireland's rich cultural and artistic legacy.

The renowned Irish poet and diplomat Emer Davis, is BPTA's Festival Director.

Sharing his thoughts about the festival, Irish Ambassador Brendan Ward said that two countries share a rich cultural, literary and artistic legacy, which needs to be preserved and taken to the next level of excellence and acceptance among new generations as well. “BPTA Festival-2021 will prove a milestone in that direction,” added Ward.

Akhilesh Mishra, India's Ambassador to Ireland, said that India and Ireland both have extremely rich traditions of literature and poetry, which provides us a valuable foundation on which to build a broader and people centric and people led dialogue, and exchange for enhancing mutual understanding and enrichment.

Nisha Luthra, Founder Director, Macèdoine A Medley BPTA Festival-2021, added that the virtual festival is an amalgamation of books, poetry, theatre and arts from both the countries. A tap dance from an Irish group will also be performed. A lot more is happening to mark the celebration at BPTA Festival-2021.

The first day of the BPTA Festival-2021 saw Indian diplomat Akhilesh Mishra in a live chat with Emer Davis and Nisha Luthra, discussing different facets of Indian-Irish literary and cultural traditions. There was a book cover launch of a book by famous Irish writer of historical fiction Nicola Pierce by Vivek Atray, a former IAS officer and motivational speaker. The others who participated on the inaugural day deliberations of BPTA Festival-2021 were Anna Tannon, Sumita Mishra, Sanjay K Roy, Pat Boan, Latif Khan, Mariana Clack, Fiona, Srilata, and Yameema Mitha. The first day of BPTA Festival-2021 ended with a tap dance by Irish artists.

Sumita Mishra, a serving IAS officer and poet, recited the poems of Rabindranath Tagore and WB Yeats. Irish poet Fiona too recited a piece. Fióna, a poet, writer and facilitator who has lived mainly in Ireland and India, and Srilata were in a chat with Emer and Nisha. Latif Khan and his Group regaled the audience with Rajasthani folk music , Qawwalis & Sufi music. Sanjoy K Roy, Managing Director of Teamwork Arts, which produces over 25 highly acclaimed performing arts, visual arts and literary festivals across 40 cities including the world, shared his thoughts through a recorded video.                                                     

The concluding day of the festival also has a lot packed in. The highlight will be a performance by renowned Bharatanatyam proponent Revantha Sarabhai who is famous Indian classical dancer Mallika Sarabhai's son. Kutle Khan's performance is also being looked forward to along with Fauzia Dastango and Danish Iqbal's live performance of dastangoi - an art of story-telling. Author Jupinderjit Singh's upcoming book's cover will also be unveiled by President of Griffith College, Duirmuid Heagrty.

 

Punjab Petroleum Dealers Association Gears Up Against the Illegal Sale in The Name of Biodiesel

Chandigarh, Oct.30, 2021:- Punjab Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has urged the state government that not only petroleum dealers are facing financial losses but government revenue is highly affected due to the Oil base/chemical oil/industrial grade product being sold illegally through mobile vans in the market in the name of biodiesel.

An Executive Meeting of the PPDA held at Hotel Parkview, Sector 24, on Saturday wherein petroleum dealers from across the state reviewed this issue and laid suggestions to the government to deal with it. 

Association President Sandeep Sehgal said that in the last few months, the concerned authorities have raided the illegality involved in the distribution of unlicensed bio-diesel. Due to the availability of this form of fuel at less price than diesel, most of the vehicles have shifted to biodiesel. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have also registered a massive cut in the sale of High Speed Diesel (HPD). Motor Speed (MS) and High Speed Diesel (HPD) vehicles have also shifted to the BS-6 category despite huge government investment. Due to the negligence of the government, low grade oil is being sold illegally in the market to meet the demand of the market, which needs to be curbed; otherwise the loss of government revenue will continue.

Sandeep Sehgal said that the service of delivering fuel door-to-door had been started which has given a massive blow to their fraternity. According to OMCs, this service is valid for those heavy machines or vehicles which cannot reach the petrol pump. But it is being seen that government and OMC orders are being flouted openly and their access is being extended to motorable, passenger and agricultural vehicles, which is directly causing loss to the petrol pump owners.

The association has made this demand while suggesting to the government, action should be taken against the non-licensed person, establishment (institution) who illegally buys diesel from mobile vans.

The association also expressed its concern over the higher VAT rate in Punjab as compared to Chandigarh. Association's general secretary Rajesh Kumar said that about 1000 petrol pumps of Punjab adjoining Chandigarh and other states are on the verge of closure. The association also demanded that no hike was made on the pending commission since the year 2017, which the OMCs should increase soon. Association members argued that their investments have multiplied and dealers cannot survive on the same commission.

 

Child Prodigies Who Have an Aim, Become The Master of the Game

In order to felicitate 100 children from ages 2-16, The Child Prodigy organised a glittering event in Chandigarh today. The Chief Guest of the event gave away awards to child heroes from age 2-16.  The Chief Guest was very impressed with the achievements of the young children. 

With a vision to encourage the bandwagon of the future of our country, The Child Prodigy event was organised today at Chandigarh. It was organized to felicitate children who have made our country proud. Child Prodigies from across the globe having varied talents were a part of the glittering event. Children from as small as 2 years to teenagers of 16 years were felicitated at the event. There were participants from as far as Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad and even England.

Akshay Ahuja said that Talents that got recognition were as diverse as public speaking, artificial intelligence expertise, youngest novelist, programming expert, start-up founder, mountaineer, etc. Families from all walks of life became a part of this successful event.

The Child Prodigy is a brainchild of Akshay Ahuja that was started with a vision to encourage youth that possess expertise in any field. Today was the first anniversary of the Child Prodigy which was celebrated by organising this event.

Some gifted children who attended the event were Kartik Tara and Vinayak Tara who have created ventilators, Rehana who created a home automation system, Kautilya Veer who runs his own start-up. At least 100 such children were felicitated at the event.

A book of 100 Child Prodigies was launched at the event by the Chief Guest. The book has stories about how these prodigies have polished their talents and what was their stepping stone.

There were 6-panel discussion rounds of these prodigies where they shared deep insights about their areas of expertise.

 

द लास्ट बेंचर ने गरीब परिवारों में बांटे दीये, मोमबत्ती और तेल की बोतल के पैकेट

Chandigarh, Oct.29, 2021:- “ये दीवाली-दीयों वाली”, स्लोगन के साथ चंडीगढ़ की समाजसेवी संस्था द लास्ट बेंचर ने लोगों को ग्रीन दीवाली के प्रति जागरूक करने के उद्देश्य से आज गरीब परिवारों को दीये, मोमबत्ती और सरसों के तेल की बोतल के पैकेट गिफ्ट किए।

द लास्ट बेंचर की प्रेसिडेंट सुमिता कोहली और जनरल सेक्रेटरी शशि बाला और संस्था के अन्य सदस्यों नीलम गुप्ता, डेज़ी महाजन, दिव्या सिंगला सहित विमला गुप्ता ने सेक्टर 19 के एक पार्क में आयोजित एक कार्यकर्म के दौरान गरीब परिवार के महिलाओं और बच्चों में दीये, मोमबत्ती और सरसों की तेल की बोतल के गिफ्ट पैक बांटे। इस मौके पारुल संस्था की संचालिका महक सिंह ने भी सहयोग दिया ।

सुमिता कोहली ने कहा कि बढ़ रहे प्रदूषण स्तर को देखते हुए उनकी संस्था द्वारा लोगों को ग्रीन दीवाली के प्रति जागरूक किया जा रहा है। वैसे तो इस वर्ष प्रशासन द्वारा पटाखों पर पूरी तरह से पाबन्दी लगाई गई है। फिर भी बेहतर और स्वच्छ वातावरण के लिए लोगों को स्वयं कदम उठाने होंगे और ज्यादा से ज्यादा पेड़ पौधे लगाने चाहिए। इसी दिशा में उनकी संस्था की तरफ से आज गरीब सैंकड़ो गरीब परिवारों में दीये, मोमबत्ती और सरसों का तेल भेंट स्वरूप दिया गया है। उन्होंने कहा कि अब समय आ गया है कि स्वच्छ वातावरण और पर्यावरण के लिए लोग अब खुद जागरूक हों ताकि हम स्वच्छ हवा में सांस ले सकें। उन्होंने कहा कि समय की मांग है कि हम सभी मिलकर वातावरण को प्रदूषित होने से रोकने के लिए आगे आएं। उन्होंने कहा कि यूं तो कोरोना महामारी संकटकाल अभी टला नही है, इसके प्रति भी लोगों को मौखिक तौर पर जागरूक किया जा रहा है। लोगों को सरकारी दिशा निर्देश का बखूबी पालन करने की अपील की जा रही है।

संस्था के अन्य सदस्यों ने बच्चों के अभिभावकों से अपील की कि वह अपने घरों में बच्चों को वातावरण को साफ सुथरा रखने के लिए जागरूक करें, ताकि प्रदूषण रहित दीवाली मनाई जा सके।

 

पंजाब में अवैध और नकली शराब के व्यापार को रोकने के लिए सख्त कदम उठाए जाएं; सरकार के साथ जुड़ने और भागीदारी करने के लिए तैयारः आई.एस.डब्ल्यू.ऐ.आई

Chandigarh, Oct.29, 2021:- त्योहारों के इस सीजन की शुरुआत के साथ, इंटरनेशनल स्पिरिट्स एंड वाइन एसोसिएशन ऑफ इंडिया (आई.एस.डब्ल्यू.ऐ.आई.), जो प्रीमियम एल्कोबेव सेक्टर की एक शीर्ष संस्था है, ने अवैध व नकली शराब के व्यापर को रोकने के लिए राज्य सरकार से सख्त जाँच और प्रवर्तन का आग्रह किया। इस एसोसिएशन ने राज्य में एल्कोबेव व्यवसाय के लिए संतुलित, व्यावहारिक और पारदर्शी दृष्टिकोण पर जोर दिया ताकि जिम्मेदार खपत को बढ़ावा दिया जा सके और राज्य में आर्थिक अवसरों का निर्माण किया जा सके।

पंजाब में वर्ष 2020 के दौरान अवैध और नकली शराब के सेवन से कई मौतें हुई हैं। अवैध या नकली शराब के सेवन से न केवल राज्य के नागरिकों के स्वास्थ्य पर नकारात्मक प्रभाव पड़ता है, बल्कि सरकारों की कानूनी रूप से उत्पादित शराब पर कर लगाने और नियंत्रित करने की क्षमता भी बाधित होती है।

पंजाब सरकार के प्रवर्तन उपायों और प्रगतिशील शराब नीति की सराहना करते हुए, आई.एस.डब्ल्यू.ए.आई. की मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी, नीता कपूर ने कहा कि आई.एस.डब्ल्यू.ए.आई. नकली शराब बाजार की जांच के लिए कड़े प्रवर्तन उपायों को लागू करने और उत्पाद शुल्क में बदलाव लाने हेतु राज्य सरकार की साहसिक पहल की सराहना करती है और उसका समर्थन करती है। नीता कपूर ने आगे कहा कि हम राज्य सरकार से एक परामर्शी और प्रगतिशील नीति-निर्माण का आग्रह करते हैं ताकि जिम्मेदार खपत और व्यवसाय करने को सुविधाजनक बनाया जा सके। आई.एस.डब्ल्यू.ऐ.आई. को इस अभ्यास में पंजाब सरकार के साथ जुड़ने और भागीदारी करने में बहुत खुशी होगी।

राज्य में अनौपचारिक शराब के बाजार को नियंत्रित करने के लिए 3ई फ्रेमवर्क पर प्रकाश डालते हुए, सुश्री नीता कपूर ने आबकारी कर कार्यान्वयन (जिसे शराब की तस्करी के प्रोत्साहन को रोकने के लिए विशेष रूप से तैयार किया गया है) तैयार करके दीर्घकालिक समाधान पर जोर दिया जो एक जिम्मेदार खपत  की संस्कृति का निर्माण करके प्रभावी प्रवर्तन तंत्र और आवश्यक शिक्षा में योगदान देगा।

अवैध और नकली शराब के कारोबार से राज्य की आमदनी को नुकसान होता है। सामान्य अनुमान के अनुसार और बाजार की रिपोर्टों के आधार पर, वर्ष 2019-20 में, अवैध और नकली शराब के व्यापार के कारण राज्य की आमदन को देशी शराब से लगभग 55 करोड़ रुपये और भारतीय निर्मित विदेशी शराब (आई.एम.एफ.एल.) से लगभग 355 करोड़ रुपये का नुकसान हुआ है। पंजाब के तीन जिलों अर्थात् तरनतारन, अमृतसर ग्रामीण और गुरदासपुर में जहरीली शराब की त्रासदी के बाद राज्य सरकार ने अवैध शराब व्यापार और उत्पाद शुल्क से संबंधित अपराधों को रोकने के लिए ष्ऑपरेशन रेड रोज़श् जैसे कई सख्त प्रवर्तन उपाय किए और इसके साथ ही सटीक ट्रैकिंग सिस्टम और प्रशासनिक समन्वय ने भी अवैध रूप से शराब बनाने, शराब की तस्करी और नकली शराब के व्यापार को रोकने में मदद की। लेकिन राज्य में अनौपचारिक शराब बाजार के खतरे को कम करने के लिए सख्त जाँच और उपायों को नियंत्रित करने की जरूरत है।

आई.एस.डब्ल्यू.ऐ.आई. के महासचिव सुरेश मेनन ने कहा कि हमने पंजाब राज्य में एल्कोबेव सेक्टर की तीन व्यापक समस्याओं को देखा है जिनमें मुख्य रूप से अवैध, नकली शराब और इसका व्यापार शामिल हैं। इससे न केवल सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य पर बुरा असर पड़ता है, बल्कि राज्य की आमदन में भी नुकसान होता है।

मेनन ने आगे कहा कि ष्प्रीमियम ब्रांडेड बोतलों में नकली उत्पाद बेचने वाले न केवल उपभोक्ताओं के लिए जोखिम पैदा करते हैं, बल्कि ब्रांड की प्रतिष्ठा को भी नुकसान पहुंचाते हैं, कंपनियों द्वारा भविष्य के निवेश को प्रतिबंधित करते हैं और कानूनी बिक्री को नुकसान पहुंचाते हैं। इसलिए, शराब के अवैध उत्पादन, बिक्री और वितरण को समाप्त करने के साथ-साथ अनौपचारिक शराब को रोकने के लिए नीतियों को अपनाना और लागू करना राज्य के लिए बेहद महत्वपूर्ण है।

भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (श्राज्य वित्तः 2019-20 के बजट का एक अध्ययनश्) द्वारा प्रकाशित एक रिपोर्ट से पता चलता है कि शराब पर राज्य उत्पाद शुल्क अधिकांश राज्यों के स्वयं की कर आमदन का लगभग 10-15 प्रतिशत है।  आर.बी.आई. की रिपोर्ट के आंकड़ों के अनुसार, राज्य सरकारों ने वित्तीय वर्ष 2020 में उत्पाद शुल्क से लगभग 1.75 ट्रिलियन रुपये की आमदन हासिल की थी, जिनमें से अधिकांश कमाई शराब की बिक्री से हुई थी। पंजाब में एल्कोबेव से आमदन का हिस्सा इसकी अपनी कर आमदन (6,200 करोड़ रुपये) का 16.5 फीसदी था।
