Industrial Issues to be Resolved in a Time-Bound Manner: Vini Mahajan

Mandi Gobindgarh 20th June:- With an objective to understand the issues and challenges confronting the industry members of Steel City Mandi Gobindgarh and to discuss the way forward, Confederation of Indian Industry organised an interaction of industry members with Ms Vini Mahajan, Additional Chief Secretary –Industries & Commerce, Government of Punjab and Rajat Agarwal, CEO, Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion, at Parbhat Resorts, Mandi Gobindgarh today. 
Rajat Agarwal said that we are happy to be here to interact with the industry members. The State Government is working with the philosophy of partnering with the industry; hence the role of such a two-way dialogue becomes paramount. He also added that the government is not only trying to simplify, rather working to abolish the time consuming process of obtaining approval from Site Approval Committee (SAC).  Rajat Agarwal also shared his opinion on the Punjab State Industrial Policy and mentioned that they are attempting to introduce structural reforms in it and remove the bottlenecks encountered during its transition in 2017, thereby enhancing Ease of Doing Business.
The State is also taking up issues regarding the stringent forest laws of the Central government and is advocating that such issues may be solved online in a time bound manner.
Further to her interaction with the officers representing Punjab Pollution Control Board and State Industrial Export Corporation about the issues and concerns raised by the industry members, Mrs Vini Mahajan instructed the Industry & Commerce Department to resolve the same in a time bound manner.
C Sibin, Director, Industries & Commerce, Punjab, also clarified on matters related to Commerce & Industry and assured that the department would render complete support to the industry.
Rahul Bhandari, MD, PSIEC, informed the industry members that there are few plots vacant in Mandi Gobindgarh Industrial Area and invited them to participate in the auctioning of these plots.
Gurmeet Singh Bhatia, Past Chairman, CII Punjab & Chairman & Managing Director, Ajooni Biotech Limited appreciated the pro-activeness of Punjab Government in reaching out to existing Industry. G S Bhatia remarked that while CII will continue to support and supplement Government’s efforts to attract new investment in the state, at the same time CII would also continue to draw the attention of Government towards existing Industry particularly the medium & SME which needs a sustained support from Governments to remain competitive & grow.
Dinesh Gupta, Member, CII Punjab State Council & Managing Director, Parbhat Heavy Forge Private Limited, shared the key issues of the local Industry of Mandi Gobindgarh particularly with respect to bringing Ease of Doing Business for existing Industry, this according to Mr Gupta included Capping of Power Tariffs for Industry & Simplification of Obtaining Power Connection; Expediting the process of obtaining LORC Clearances; Waiver of Property Tax on Industry; Simplifying the Labour Laws, etc.
Deepak Gupta, Co Convenor, CII Mandi Gobindgarh Core Group  & Director, A K  Multimetals Limited delivered the vote of thanks and expressed his gratitude towards the government and the industry members who took out time for the fruitful interaction.
